Protest: Don't send London Taxi and Private Hire to Coventry
Transport for London intend to privatise their London Taxi and Private Hire Department, sending many staff to work in Coventry or Northampton in the process.
Staff cuts that are planned as part of the process will mean fewer cab driver inspections which will undermine the Safer Travel at Night Scheme and expose more passengers - and especially women - to greater risk from unlicensed cab drivers.
TfL’s own Website claims 6,000 unlicensed cab drivers have been arrested since the Safer Travel at Night Scheme began in 2003 whilst in 2009/10 there were 143 reported cab related sexual offences.
